NACAC Monitoring Shutdown Impact on Students, Families

Students and families from around the country have been affected by the recent partial federal government shutdown, the longest shutdown in US history.

Though the shutdown has ended for the time being, there are still many struggling in its wake.

Many institutions are offering services, including emergency aid  and delayed tuition with no penalties, to students or their parents who may be furloughed or not being paid.

While the Department of Education (ED) is fully funded for the 2019 fiscal year, the partial government shutdown may still cause issues for the processing of 2018-19 and 2019-20 FAFSAs that require certain database matches, according to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

The lasting and far-reaching effects of the shutdown will likely continue in unanticipated ways.

NACAC will continue to monitor the issue and provide updates as they become available.
